The story of Swan Lake
Prince Siegfried meets a flock of swans by a lake in the forest. One of them, Odette, turns out to be an enchanted young woman: the evil sorcerer Rothbart has turned her into a swan, and only true love can break the spell. At the prince’s ball Rothbart’s daughter Odile appears, dressed in black and disguised as Odette. Siegfried has to prove that his love is true.
Swan Lake has music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The best-known version, by the ballet masters Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, premiered in 1895 in St Petersburg. It is the ballet of the white swans and of the famous ‘Dance of the Little Swans’.
The swan and Anna Pavlova
Anna Pavlova danced The Dying Swan all over the world, the short solo that made her famous. That is why a swan is also in the emblem of our Foundation. Vladislav Kuramshin himself danced in Swan Lake and created a production with Tatiana Petrova for the students of the Academy.
